1. Insert your self portrait on this page.

Make the picture smaller than the original file. Otherwise, your site will take too long to load and no one will see your picture.

To make the actual file smaller, you either need to use a photo-editing program on your original file or you need to make sure you change the picture quality when you are saving it. To do this, you will need to start from scratch.

Follow these steps to check the size of pictures currently in your web:

1. Open "My Computer" from your Start Menu and go to the Images folder of your web site.

2. Go to the View menu in Windows Explorer and change the view to Details.

3. Right-click any image larger than 200 kb and open it with Microsoft Photo Editor (or some other photo editor program).

4. Go to Properties under the File menu and change to 72 dpi.

5. Go to Resize under the Edit menu and change the size to around 6 to 8 inches wide. (Make sure it is in inches and not pixels first, though!)

6. Save your file.

7. Go back to the Explorer window and check the size of your image. If it is still over 200 kb, try resizing again.

If you are inserting a new picture into your site, follow these steps:

1. Insert the picture from an outside location.

2. When you save the file, in addition to changing the folder to "Images," click on the "Picture Options" button.

3. Enter a number to lower the picture quality and total image size.

Try to keep your size at 100 KB or less, but if you can't at least just bring the picture quality down to 1.
